BLOOMINGTON CHAMBER
SINGERS SATURDAY 1/21/2012 9AM UPDATE STAY SAFE TODAY! |
On April 21st, 2012, Bloomington Chamber Singers (BCS) will present Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis in D, op. 123. As is customary for its major productions, the 70-voice chorus of community singers will be joined by professional orchestral musicians and vocal soloists. The venue is the Evangelical Community Church in Bloomington, a large open space that seats approximately 600 people. BCS has a large and loyal audience base, and typically performs to a sold-out house. More information about BCS can be found on other sections of this website. For nearly half a century, BCS has engaged talented local residents, JSOM students and faculty, and regional artists to mount performances that are recognized consistently for their high level of musical excellence. Over the years, BCS has provided performance opportunities for some of the finest student voices at the Jacobs School, and has collaborated with faculty vocal artists, including Tim Noble, Mary Ann Hart, Sylvia McNair, and Alan Bennett.
Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis is universally known as one of the greatest musical achievements of Western music. Composed at the end of Beethoven’s life, it is the work of a mature genius whose music stretched the capabilities of instruments and voices to new heights. Missa Solemnis places huge demands on soloists, chorus, and orchestra alike, and returns profound benefits to performers and audience alike.
The four solo roles for this production will be chosen through open audition. Interested and qualified singers are encouraged to read the following information before signing up for an audition time.
